What the law has in store for us (or not)

Reminder: for over 200 years, France prohibited women from wearing pants without authorization.

Less known, another regulation forbade men from cross-dressing — except during Carnival. This law, stemming from a decree of 1802, remained in force until its official repeal in… 2013!

Needless to say, freedom of gender expression is still a recent achievement.

But beware, with the current rise of certain conservative discourses… and, we must admit, some questionable outfits spotted here and there, a new rumor is growing.

Starting April 12th, anyone wishing to cross-dress should obtain a “temporary license to cross-dress.”

The official purpose: « Preserve the national aesthetic » (understand: limit stylistic deviations that are too… disruptive) and « avoid uncontrolled eyeshadow excesses. »

The exam, in three steps:
• Walking in heels on carpet
• Timed false eyelash application
• Makeup/outfit coordination scored by a citizen jury (RuPaul level, but in a sub-prefecture version)

At Transbeauté, we laugh (bitterly) but above all we reassure: no license will ever be required to express who you are.

The only rule we apply here? Feeling good in your skin.
And perhaps, let’s dare, matching tights to lipstick — but that’s a bonus.

See you when for the glittery outfit à la fish?! ..April.

In 2025, the driver's license gives way to the license to cross-dress! Heels, blush, and the freedom to be yourself become the new codes to follow. Fortunately, all this is just a wink for April 1st
