Chic Bars: Elegance Is a Must

Claude:

"I have always loved the bars in grand hotels.
The possibility of frequenting them today while showing off my 'bourgeois look' delights me.

I do not go to bars alone.
I am accompanied by one or two accomplices on these escapades.
Visiting these places requires confidence.

I have no indication if these establishments are transfriendly or not.

As I imagine they don’t want to be labeled, it seems better not to go in groups.

The goal, from my point of view, is to have a good time—calm luxury and sensuality—by blending into the environment.
I have never encountered any difficulty.

Be careful with wardrobe faux pas.
I discourage flashy outfits and even more so caricatures of femininity, which are often outdated stereotypes rooted in masculine clichés.
With these precautions, everything should go well.

Elegance is therefore essential, which also implies appropriate behavior: being smiling, polite, and kind. Our passing only benefits from it.

The Joséphine Bar.

This is the bar of the Lutetia hotel, the only palace on the left bank, built by Madame Boucicaut in 1910 so that her clients (from Le Bon Marché) could stay when they came from the provinces.
It reopened in 2018 after 4 years of renovation work.

Its bar is a superb place where we went, with Betty, to have a drink on a weekday late afternoon.

The staff is charming and attentive.

There is a menu with snacks allowing you to turn this moment into an aperitif dinner.
It’s not exactly cheap but all this luxury comes at a price.

Jeans are allowed, but if you want to soak in a luxury atmosphere and feel a little privileged, take the opportunity to dress up at least to fully enjoy the moment.

For a reason I have forgotten, we had the chance to exchange a few words with two other young women at the neighboring table.
All this happened naturally.

The grand piano is probably used mostly on weekends.
However, I don’t know how busy it is then.

As often in all these establishments, I recommend a detour through the “Ladies Room,” there are often beautiful mirrors to take photos.

Madame Rêve: An Excellent Opportunity to Be Noticed.

One of my favorite spots, I really like this establishment, the bar-restaurant, and this superb space with an 8-meter-high ceiling.

These are the former premises of the Poste du Louvre.
If La Poste still owns it, this large building has been completely revamped.
It now houses among other things a hotel (five stars, mind you) and two restaurants.

On the ground floor, therefore, Madame Rêve Café with this superb bar-restaurant.
In a future blog post, I will talk about the restaurant.

Here you are warned: old, ripped jeans are a no-go.
In my opinion, it’s a place where you come to display a bit of your elegance.

You can come for a drink, dinner, or tea-time.
The evening atmosphere is entirely different with its dimmed lights.
This actually makes on-site souvenir photos difficult.

Take your precautions by anticipating or once back home, as I did here.

I must admit that crossing the room along the immense bar is an excellent opportunity to be noticed. It’s still the moment to test your walk and posture—in public!

The menu features a lovely collection of cocktails, and also wines by the glass. Especially a white Crozes Hermitage, my favorite at Madame Rêve Café.

Hôtel Bauchaumont: A Guest’s Outfit Inspires Claude

A four-star hotel right in the center of Paris, near the Sentier metro.

A small, very cozy bar with a very nice playlist (for those of my age).
I went there with my accomplice Betty and a friend of hers who was passing through Paris.

Very pleasant service, relaxed but very professional.
We had an excellent evening.

A little anecdote.
While waiting for Betty, a very elegant guest leaving the hotel gave me the idea for an outfit.
Looking at her, I realized I had everything she was wearing in my wardrobe, identical for some pieces, and that it made a very pretty outfit that I promptly reproduced.
And photographed a few days later.

That’s it!

Then, don’t forget the opportunity to take the ritual photo: “Ladies Room.”
