No surprise… we know how incredible makeup is as a tool for self-expression and confidence for transgender women and crossdressers.

Whether you are exploring your femininity or looking for tips to enhance your appearance, it is essential to know THE best practices for a fresh, natural makeup adapted to your needs.

A quick reminder: If you are undergoing hormone treatment, some of my tips can be nuanced by aligning closer to the routines of cisgender women.

For others, your skin still requires a slightly more “intensive” treatment for optimal results!

In this article, I share with you the 5 essential steps to achieve a radiant complexion and makeup that will highlight your unique beauty, while minimizing small imperfections and signs of aging.

A transgender or crossdressing person carefully applies makeup in front of an illuminated mirror. The space is set up with beauty products and makeup tools, reflecting a neat and affirmed routine

1. Prepare your skin: the foundation of successful makeup

Well-prepared skin is the secret to flawless, long-lasting makeup. If your skin is not sufficiently hydrated or cleansed, fine lines, pores, and small imperfections are likely to be emphasized.

The ideal routine in 3 steps:

Cleanse

Use a gentle cleanser to remove impurities and excess sebum. (Yes, especially around the nose… 😉)

Exfoliate

A light exfoliation once or twice a week will remove dead skin cells and refine your skin texture. (Rub, don’t scrape!)

Hydrate

Choose a moisturizer suitable for your skin type to instantly plump and smooth.

Conseil Transbeauté : Favor products containing hyaluronic acid for an immediate hydrating and plumping effect.

2. The essential step: applying a makeup primer

After properly hydrating your skin, it’s time to apply a primer. For you, I recommend a double application for a smooth and long-lasting complexion:

A hydrating primer,

which creates a soft and smooth surface while maintaining skin hydration. It helps prevent dryness and minimizes fine lines.

A blurring primer,

ideal for hiding beard shadow, redness, or enlarged pores. It provides a “soft-focus” effect that visually blurs imperfections.

Conseil Transbeauté : Apply the blurring primer only on strategic zones like the beard area or the T-zone to avoid weighing down your makeup.

3. Choose the right foundation products

Choosing the right foundation is crucial, especially for transgender women and crossdressers seeking effective coverage without a “cakey” effect.

To prioritize: cream textures, which offer better coverage while maintaining a natural look. Unlike powders, they do not dry out the skin or accentuate fine lines.

My Transbeauté recommendations:

A high-coverage cream foundation,

ideal for masking beard shadow.

A creamy concealer,

to correct localized imperfections without weighing down the complexion.

Avoid compact powders,

which can emphasize signs of aging and create a dry effect.

Conseil Transbeauté : For a natural finish, apply your foundation in several thin layers, tapping with a damp sponge.

4. Add color for a fresh and radiant effect

Adding touches of color brings life and dimension to your face. However, it is important to choose the right textures to prevent makeup from settling into the skin.

Opt for cream formulas, which naturally blend into the skin and offer a luminous finish:

A cream blush,

to apply on the cheekbones for an immediate healthy glow.

A cream eyeshadow,

for a sparkling and soft gaze.

A tinted balm,

perfect for moisturizing lips while adding a touch of color.

Conseil Transbeauté : Prefer peach, pink, or coral tones, which brighten the complexion and have a rejuvenating effect.

5. Practice and patience: your best beauty ally ⏳💪

At Transbeauté, we believe that beauty is above all a matter of confidence and pleasure.
Makeup is a journey that requires time and practice, so don’t be too hard on yourself!

A few tips to progress with confidence:
• Watch tutorials tailored to the needs of transgender women to learn specific techniques.
• Test different styles and products to find what highlights you best.
• Have fun and dare to be bold with colors and textures!

Conseil Transbeauté : Take pictures of your looks to track your progress and adjust your techniques over time.

Express your femininity with confidence and radiance

With these 5 steps, you have all the keys to create makeup that enhances your unique beauty.
