Do you feel guilty about crossdressing or being transgender? Unfortunately, many of “my clients” have hinted that they do.
This is the latest testimony (Tina: I just wish I could be a pretty woman) published on the blog that inspired this post. It seems to me that many of you, my dears, might relate to this question…
If you feel like you have to lie or deceive those around you to keep your feminine side hidden, I can understand the inner conflict and distress that causes you: shame, guilt first and foremost… not to mention everything else.
But let’s be clear: there is nothing wrong with crossdressing or being transgender.
We live in a world with very defined gender roles.
By the way, and as a side note, it turns out that unfortunately, these roles are even more rigid for men. As for the wardrobe, let’s not even get started (Who’s going to be comfortable at the office when the temperature rises?)
It’s OK for women to express their masculinity by dressing like tomboys or acting with strength and confidence. But if a guy looks or acts like a woman, he is labeled as weird, weak, or gay.
The underlying message is that it’s okay to be masculine (even if you are a woman), but femininity is something to be ashamed of?
Why is that?
Society is evolving slowly, but the time has come to reject these outdated messages, mostly inherited from other times.
I think Iggy Pop said it best:
“I'm not ashamed to dress like a woman because I don’t think it’s shameful to be a woman.”
There is no shame either in changing sex to match who you are inside!
I would love to read YOUR thoughts on this topic…
Do you struggle with guilt, or is it a non-issue for you? If you have overcome feelings of guilt, how did you do it? Your testimony could help many of you!
Share your experience on the subject in the comments and tell us if you feel guilty or if you are living your best life!
To be continued…
