A name is one of the first things that define us.
It carries energy, identity, and a story.

For a trans woman or a person exploring their gender, choosing their name is much more than a formality: it is a powerful step towards oneself.

Some immediately know which name suits them, like an obvious truth.
For others, it’s a quest, a search between what sounds right, what evokes the femininity they desire, and what reflects their personality.

Not sure how to find yours? Hesitant or uncertain?

In this article, I share some ideas to help you choose a name that reflects you, to embrace it confidently, and to fully integrate it into your feminization journey.

And above all, I invite you to share your story in the comments!

In front of her mirror, she reflects… Which name suits her best? The one that will resonate within her, the one that will carry her story, her femininity, her deep identity. Emma, Léa, Soline… Each name has a different sound, energy, and emotion. Which one will be hers?

How to choose a name that fits you?

Draw inspiration from women who inspire you

Your name can be a tribute to a remarkable woman: an actress, a writer, a friend, a role model.

Who embodies the femininity you want to express? Maybe you admire the elegance of an Audrey, the sweetness of a Juliette, or the strength of a Simone.

Play with sounds

Do you prefer a short, dynamic name like “Emma” or “Léa,” or a more elegant and timeless name like “Gabrielle” or “Victoria”?

Try saying it out loud, write it down, imagine being called that in conversation.

Does it feel natural and aligned with your identity?

Explore the meanings of names

Names often carry strong symbolism.
“Sophie” means wisdom, “Amélie” evokes sweetness, “Charlotte” symbolizes strength.

Feeling in tune with the meaning of a name can be a beautiful way to express who you are or who you want to become.

Do you already have a unisex name?

If your birth name is unisex — like “Dominique,” “Camille,” “Charlie,” “Sacha,” “Claude,” or “Noa” — you might be lucky enough to keep it!

This can be a lovely way to maintain continuity in your identity while asserting your femininity.
And as a bonus, it simplifies administrative procedures.

Trust your instinct

Sometimes, the right name naturally presents itself.
If a name makes you vibrate, feels obvious, and resonates within you, it’s probably the right one.

Listen to your feelings and trust yourself.
After all, this name is a part of you.

How to fully embrace your female name?

Once your name is chosen, it’s about owning it with confidence and pride.

Affirm it daily

The more you use it — on social media, with your loved ones, in your email signature — the more it will become obvious to you and those around you.

Harmonize your image with your name

A soft name like “Lily” often inspires a delicate and romantic style, while a name like “Isabelle” evokes a more assertive elegance. Your look, attitude, and name can thus complement each other harmoniously.

Work on your appearance and attitude

Makeup, hairstyle, posture, and dressing style contribute to strengthening your feminine identity and making the woman you are shine.

Every name has a story… and I would love to know yours! Share your name and its story in the comments. What does it evoke for you? What was your trigger?

Looking forward to reading you!

Jennifer (which means clear and sweet)
