Many of you praised the recent testimony of July and her first public outing as a woman during an evening event.

On the occasion of her testimony, you may have discovered the famous “Diner de Charly.”

So what do we really know to this day about this famous “Diner (or evening) de Charly”?

According to rumor, it’s a unique evening dedicated to crossdressers and trans people, reserved for initiates, considered the place to be to have a pleasant time as a crossdresser or trans person, and has been going on for several years.

This event stays off the radar of “People” and other curious onlookers, which doesn’t displease Charly…

So it is with great pleasure that I welcome to my blog, probably what is to date, the only and unique interview with Charly, the organizer himself of the evening that bears his name!

Private and unique evening in the transgender world

Jennifer: Hello Charly, thank you for granting us this exclusive interview for Transbeauté. Could you tell us about the evening named after you: “Dîner de Charly”?

Charly: Hello Jennifer, my pleasure. The “Dîner de Charly” is a private evening for the transgender community and takes place once a year in a private location, generally a T-Friendly restaurant with a capacity of about 100 people.

On average, the “dinner” hosts between 70 and 90 people in an acceptable space.
Sometimes the venue owners privatize their establishment for us so as not to disturb any usual clients (or not)!

This formula has existed for almost 10 years, initially combined with an after-party at the MdT (Maison des Travestis) located just across the street, which gladly welcomed this extra clientele!
Since MdT closed, after 2 a.m. everyone heads to whatever parties might be available for them, in Paris or elsewhere! (see Lilly’s topic: where to go out in Paris in 2023 if you are a crossdresser or transgender?)

Jennifer: Interesting. Who can participate in this evening?

Charly: Apart from a few select male companions, the evening is entirely dedicated to cisgender and transgender ladies.
Everyone is invited to gather around a dinner buffet at the venue described in a Facebook event I create every year and dedicated to this, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Friendly, lighthearted atmosphere and social exchanges.

Jennifer: What is the format of the dinner buffet?

Charly: The chosen format is a canapé-based buffet, served at starters, midway and dessert, with a half bottle of wine choice (red, white, rosé) and coffee if needed; all for a price of €45 all inclusive.

Jennifer: And what is the atmosphere like at this event?

Charly: The atmosphere is very friendly and lighthearted, everyone trying to figure out who is who, who does what...
Some tables are of course available to eat and chat!
The audience is mostly cisgender and transgender, and the goal is to bring together people from all around France and beyond, some who know each other through the internet (social networks) or not!

Jennifer: I heard that each “Dîner de Charly” has a different dress code theme. Could you tell us more?

Charly: Yes, that’s right. Each “Dîner de Charly” has a dress theme: there was “color,” “chess,” “witches,” etc. The theme chosen for 2023 is “The Rainbow!”

Return of the “Angels” at Diner de Charly

Jennifer: That’s original. Are there other elements that make this evening unique?

Charly: Indeed, as part of the framework, in 2023 we are reconnecting with a few “Angels” who are people participating in the party and also have a role supporting shy attendees;
they also assist with welcoming guests to smooth the entry at the café rush at 8 p.m.!
Every time, I have wanted to give these “Angels” a distinctive sign so they are easily recognizable (name/photo badge, distinctive jewelry, etc.).

Jennifer: That’s very thoughtful! Now, the question all uninitiated girls will ask: “How can I participate in the ‘Diner or evening de Charly’?”

Carefully selected guests, how to participate?

Charly: Invitations are sent from MY Facebook because I am the only one managing the entire “Dîner” from my computer!

Indeed, the invited guests to these evenings are people on my Facebook friend list, PLUS others who have been recommended to me and for whom I require the sponsors to guarantee their “protégées,” in order to avoid disruptions, unruly behavior, etc.

The evening is meant to be “lighthearted” and non-confrontational; if not, I intervene and remove the troublemaker.

Jennifer: To conclude, when will the next “Dîner de Charly” take place?

Charly: The organization of the 2023 dinner is finalized, and by the way, I do not want to mention the location nor even the date, to avoid attracting an unexpected crowd beyond what is expected, plus people who have no business at these “Dîners.”

Jennifer: Thank you very much Charly, and may the 2023 edition of this “Dîner de Charly” be a real success and the occasion for beautiful encounters. To put it simply: the Diner de Charly: there are those who know it and… those who will get to know it.
